I hear this match up alot but i always say dbz cause thats putting a already original classic anime against a anime thats has potential to be a classic in the future. Both have flaws, but come on. In terms of substance for critical thinking, naruto is, while not perfect, undisputably more ambitious. Shippuden is vastly superior to super in a lot of ways.

Naruto was more appealing to the female fans, and this made it more preferable to dragon ball z though dbz has its share of female fans also, it is unmatched when compared to that of naruto. Dbz is better than super, and i'd honestly say shippuden is a better series overall than dbz. Some of the seeds of that plot were planted in naruto, but it only takes root after the time jump between the two series.
